The National Fire Protection
Association recommends that homeowners have
their chimney inspected at least once a year.
Chimney Works offers a full portfolio of chimney and venting system services. Whether it’s
woodstoves, fireplaces, or chimneys, we understand the intricacies of the venting systems in your home. We are equipped to
address all of your maintenance and safety needs. Our services include:
Chimney Inspections & Sweeping
Our CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps use state-of-the-art equipment to inspect and sweep chimneys of all kinds.
While sweeping your system, we look for any problems that could prevent peak performance and recommend what is needed for
your system to burn cleanly and safely. When necessary, we use video inspection camera equipment to examine hidden parts of
the flue. We offer the full range of repairs to chimney systems, big and small—from repairing leaky flashing to
tuckpointing and masonry repair to relining the flue.
Installation of Dampers Having
no damper or one that no longer functions properly is like having an open window in your home! Chimney Works installs
the efficient Lock-Top Damper and Energy Top Damper systems to prevent your house air from rushing out and cold air from rushing
in. These carry a lifetime warranty and will pay for themselves in a few years by making your home more energy efficient.
Installation
of Chimney Caps
Every chimney needs a cap to prevent water, animals,
leaves, and debris from entering the flue openings
at the top of the chimney. Caps also help prevent water damage to the masonry itself. We install and recommend the Custom Hip Cap to cover the entire top of the chimney , but also have smaller caps
of different size and type available.
Pre-Fab Chimney Tops Chimney Works installs Rain Pans,
Shrouds, and Caps for non-masonry chimneys also.
Masonry
Repairs
We do all types of masonry repairs including completely
rebuilding the firebox, repointing and rebuilding chimney stacks, installation of new masonry crowns at the top of the chimney,
and conversion of older coal burning fireplaces to wood burning. We replace cracked ceramic panels in non-masonry fireplaces
.
Diagnostics and Troubleshooting We do a safety evaluation with each service
call and give you a written report. We also look at structural and other issues that may be causing you a problem, such
as a smoking fireplace, and make recommendations to solve the issue. Video scanning is available to evaluate the interior
of the chimney where needed.
Leaking Chimneys Water penetration can cause interior and exterior
structural damage to your home, leading to costly repairs if left unchecked, and can be a potential safety hazard. Chimney
Works can determine the cause of the water entry and fix it . Many of the common problems of chimney structures originate
in this way.
Animal Removal If squirrels, birds, or other creatures decide to make a home
in your chimney, we'll eliminate the problem. Chimney Works can remove their nests, disinfect your chimney, and prevent
future visits by these animals.
Relining
Chimneys with a damaged or missing liner can allow
heat to transfer rapidly into adjacent woodwork and represent a fire hazard. Modern building codes and the standards of the
National Fire Protection Association mandate liners for chimney structures. Chimney Works is a registered installer of the
Ventinox chimney liner system.
Gas Furnace Venting It is common for the furnace and hot water heater in your
home to vent through your chimney. These flue gases are acidic in nature and literally eat away at the masonry. This allows
heat to transfer to nearby combustibles and can allow dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide to leak into the living areas. Chimney Works can alleviate the problem by relining the chimney and replacing the connector
pipes which run from the appliances to the chimney.
Real Estate Evaluations We maintain good
relationships with real estate professionals in the area, and are often called upon to provide evaluations of the chimney
system as part of the requirements for buying or selling a home. Most home inspectors do not have the specialized knowledge
and equipment to properly inspect the interior of a chimney. It is much better to know if expensive repairs are needed before
the closing takes place.
